School Innovation Development Program 2.0 (SIDP)

In order to inculcate the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among the school students of TamilNadu, the School Innovation Development Project (SIDP) was conceived and implemented by EDII-TN with UNICEF joining as Knowledge partner with effect from September 2022. Catching the mind young is the motto. Such a knowledge driven human force is a basic requirement to the Government’s ambitious project of “One trillion dollar economy by 2030” The Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister launched the School Innovation Development Project on 16.09.2022 at Madurai.

The primary goal of the project is to make the school children to identify a local problem and provide a technology driven solution to solve the problem. The best ideas are chosen to the prototype stage through a boot camp. The best innovative product prototypes built by these children in these boot camps are evaluated and the award is given accordingly. As this is an uncharted territory for the students, EDII provides training to the volunteering teachers of the participating schools with the help of UNICEF’s technical team. The trained guide teachers in turn mentor the students in their journey of innovation. Thus, the school children are suitably enabled in their journey into innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship confidently.  It is found during the last two years that the school children across the State have the aptitude towards  innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. The type of new products developed by them is a testimony to the success of this Government project.
